Boxing Glove Size Guide (oz)
Boxing gloves are sized by weight in ounces, chosen from your body weight and what you're doing — not hand size.
Boxing gloves aren't sized by your hand — they're chosen by weight in ounces, based on your body weight and use. Heavier gloves (more padding) protect more in sparring; lighter gloves are for competition.
Pick oz by body weight + use
Heavier = more protection (sparring); lighter = competition
Boxing glove weight (oz) by body weight and use:
| Body weight | Bag / fitness | Training | Sparring |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 60 kg | 10 oz | 12 oz | 14 oz |
| 60–70 kg | 12 oz | 14 oz | 16 oz |
| 70–90 kg | 14 oz | 16 oz | 16 oz |
| Over 90 kg | 16 oz | 16 oz | 18 oz |
⚠️ Competition gloves are lighter (amateur ~10 oz, pro 8–10 oz). For sparring, always go heavier to protect both boxers. Hand circumference only affects the glove brand's S/M/L shell, not the oz.

What oz boxing gloves should I get?
For general training and bag work, 12–14 oz; for sparring, 16 oz (heavier protects both of you); for competition, 8–10 oz. Scale up with body weight.
Are boxing gloves sized by hand?
No — they're sized by weight in ounces from your body weight and use. Some brands offer S/M/L shells, but the oz is what matters.
