How to measure

    Measure from floor to top of head against a wall, shoes off.

  2. Chest

    Around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms — this sizes blazers and jumpers.

  3. Waist

    Around the natural waistline — this sizes trousers and skirts.

  4. Size up for growth

    Uniform lasts a school year, so size up if between sizes or mid–growth spurt.

How this is calculated

UK uniform is labelled by age (e.g. 'age 7–8'), which maps to the child's height. Buy individual garments by their controlling measurement: blazers and jumpers by chest in inches, trousers and skirts by waist, older pupils' shirts by collar size, and shoes by foot length with about 1.2 cm growing room. Measure your child and size up if they're between sizes or growing quickly — and check the retailer's own chart.
